What is Effective Effort?
THE SKILLFUL TEACHER-Building your Teaching Skills
I use these six ideas in my students work as a reflective piece for them and myself while taking the Wellness course. Students will be assessing themselves on these important pieces as they go through their learning and hopefully transfer to other areas in their YMS experiences. Please look at them carefully and see what it takes to be a great learner.
TIME-Understanding of how much time it takes to do the job well
*Did I put in sufficient time to get the job done?
*What does it take to meet a high standard?
FOCUS-No TV or other distractions; concentrate only on the work!
*Am I working efficiently without distraction?
*Variety of ways to focus, but talking with buds about the weekend isn’t my idea of focus.
RESOURCEFULNESS-Knowing where to go and whom to ask for help then you are really stuck
*Did I reach out for help and know where to go for it?
*Other people, other sources?
STRATEGIES-If one approach isn’t working, keep trying different ways until you find one that works
*What strategies am I using or could I use? Do I have alternatives when a strategy isn’t working?
*Graphic organizers, summarizing, note taking, SQ3R, mnemonic keyword technique
USE OF FEEDBACK-Looking carefully at responses to your work so you know exactly what to fix
*How or where can I get my feedback on how I am doing?
*What does the feedback tell me about how to improve my performance?
COMMITMENT-being determined to finish the very best work
*When something is difficult, do I stick with it? Do I really try hard?
*You have to want to accomplish something to put the effort in completing tasks. You may not like it, but you have to try hard!
